I recently discovered the artwork of Hiroshi Nagai, a Japanese illustrator and painter who is known for his city pop style. I was fascinated by his images, but I could not explain why. Was it the 80’s color scheme that evoked nostalgia? Was it the heavy shadows that created this film noir feel? Was it the flat textures that contrasted with the dynamic lines?
